PREVENTIVE HEALTH EXAM
Annual preventive exam includes a complete physical examination, blood work, screening tests, and recommendations for vaccines and subspecialty referrals. PAP smears, pelvic exams and breast exams for women are provided by their gynecologist.
Acute and chronic medical problems are not addressed during this visit. So for example if you are sick on the day of your physical, the exam will be rescheduled so that the doctor can diagnose and treat your acute medical problem first.
If problems are detected during the physical exam, you will be asked to follow up for further testing and evaluation. Your preventive visit is to solely address all the issues related to keeping you healthy in the future and to detect illnesses before they cause symptoms.
